About

The GLBTA Student Leadership Award is intended to recognize the achievements of University of Minnesota undergraduate and graduate students from any U of M campus (Crookston, Duluth, Morris, Rochester, or Twin Cities) who exemplify outstanding leadership either within the campus GLBTA communities or within other communities, bringing about awareness and/or acceptance of GLBTA issues and identities.

Graduate and undergraduate students will be evaluated in separate categories, and the availability of opportunity and experiences will be taken into consideration.  Nominees will be evaluated by staff members of the GLBTA Programs Office.  Award recipients will be acknowledged at Lavender Celebration & Awards Ceremony.


Criteria

Ideal candidates for the annual GLBTA Student Leadership Award should:

  • Exhibit outstanding leadership in and/or service to the University of Minnesota GLBTA campus community (on any campus: Crookston, Duluth, Morris, Rochester, or Twin Cities) OR
  • Exhibit outstanding leadership in and/or service to other communities, bringing about awareness/acceptance of GLBTA issues and identities within those communities

Ideal candidates should also:

  • Exhibit a strong commitment to racial, economic, and social justice
  • Exhibit the ability to balance multiple commitments in a healthy, sustainable manner
  • Have served the U of M GLBTA campus community for at least one full academic year (two consecutive semesters)
  • Be enrolled in at least one course at any U of M campus during the current academic year (summer courses are included)

Nominations

Nominations are currently not being taken until the 2008 - 2009 academic year.
